What the heck is XEOMIN® (Zee-oh-men)?

XEOMIN®(incobotulinumtoxinA) is botulinum toxin type A, which is a purified protein from bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is a neurotoxin that we can use for it’s side effects of muscle paralyzation.  This all sounds big and scary, however, when used correctly, and injected in correct amounts into certain facial muscles, we can get relaxation we want. No more pesky frown lines, and rid yourself of those wrinkles!

I’ve had Botox before, is that the same?

Yes and no.  Botox is a brand name. XEOMIN® is a brand name from a different company.  They are both botulinum toxin type A, however XEOMIN®is a purified form of the toxin; the active component has been isolated so you’re only getting what you want/need, none of that extra yucky stuff hanging on to the molecule.

So how does XEOMIN® actually do its thing?

When you squint or frown, the muscles between your eyebrows contract, causing the skin to furrow and fold. Over time, as your skin ages and loses some of its elasticity, these repeated contractions can cause persistent frown lines. Botulinum toxin type A – the active ingredient in XEOMIN®– acts on nerve endings in muscles to prevent muscle fibers from contracting. By reducing these contractions, XEOMIN® can temporarily reduce the lines between your eyebrows.

Do I have to wait until those lines start showing up before I can get this?

Absolutely not! Prevention is a great thing.  That said, you likely won’t need as much in order to relax those muscles as compared to someone who has lost a great deal of elasticity already.

How much will I need? And how much does it cost?

XEOMIN® is dosed in units. The amount needed varies from person to person, based on desired outcome (do you want no movement? A little movement? Just want to chill out those 11’s?), facial structure (is your forehead smaller or larger?), just need a touch up?, etc. Average unit need runs 20-50 units. Current pricing is $11/unit. We often run specials, so keep a lookout!

Does it hurt?

You will feel a little prick, however, I have a certain way of performing the injections to limit the discomfort as much as possible. We don’t using topical numbing.

How long does it take?

If you’ve never had any neurotoxin injections before, we’ll go through the process and what it can offer you. We’ll discuss risks vs. benefits, what to expect, approximate cost, etc. The actual injection process is quick, maybe 5-7 minutes. If it’s your first ever appointment, plan to hang out with us for 20-30 minutes. We’ll have a good time, I promise. Just coming for a quick touch up? 10-15 minutes and you’ll be on your way.
